Steven King headlines the 31st Annual Coach of the Year Awards dinner at Barooga Sports on Thursday 4th October 2018.
A local boy from Shepparton, Steven has played over 200 AFL Games with Geelong and St Kilda including honours such as 2007 AFL Premiership Player with Geelong, 2 Geelong Best & Fairest Medals and an all Australian honours in 2000. He is currently an assistant coach with Western Bulldogs.
The annual event recognises and awards AFL Coaches in all categories across affiliated leagues in the region, with 2018 including for the first time a Netball Coach of the Year.
AFL Goulburn Murray Football Development Manager Greg Liddell recognises the significant role of the dinner in recognising coaches across the region.
“It’s exciting to welcome Netball as part of the event for the first time, with majority of our leagues and clubs being Football and Netball.”
“There are a lot of coaches out there that go unrewarded for what they do for football and netball and this night recognises the time and effort and the wonderful leadership that our coaches give to the game” he said.
“Coaching is such a crucial part of sports and the more we can do to guide and assist coaches in their roles, the more our players will benefit.”
