Established in 2013, the AFL Goulburn Murray Commission provides governance and strategy development for Football and Netball across the Goulburn Murray Region with three key focus areas to:
- Minimise the cost of participation by resource sharing and increasing local revenue to reinvest back into the game
- Establish a Region Administration Centre with resources reporting locally to provide operational and administrative support to member leagues
- Ensure a local authority is provided to allow local people to make local decisions on the sports strategic direction and growth
The Commission is now completing its fifth year and is calling for nominations for individuals to join the AFL Goulburn Murray Commission to oversee and drive the region’s key strategies.
The AFL Goulburn Murray Commission exists to enable country football and netball to grow within our region through its strategic deliberations and actions.
The strategic component of the business is governed by the Commission and implemented by the Region General Manager and staff. Commission meetings are typically held on the last Tuesday of the month and are the forum where strategic discussions and deliberations are held and decisions are made.
Commissioners must also ensure that any conflict of interest is identified and managed in accordance with established principles so as to protect the public interest and maintain the integrity of the Commission.
Commissioners are also expected to use their knowledge and individual skill sets and become actively involved in relevant projects and sub-committees.
Commissioners will also interact and engage with our AFL Goulburn Murray stakeholders, Leagues and clubs and follow up any strategic issues that they might have.
Commissioners must always act professionally and in the best interests of AFL Goulburn Murray as well as in the greater good for community football and netball.
All Commissioner roles are voluntary and Commissioners must be totally independent. Therefore, Commissioners are ineligible to hold a governance position within a League, Club or Umpiring Association.
