The diversity of Australia’s population means that for the game of AFL to grow we must provide an inclusive environment which attracts people of all backgrounds.
With that in mind a new initiative working closely with AFL Victoria, Commission regions and TAC Cup regions, has allocated each of the ten Victorian AFL Clubs with a region in Victoria and the Northern Territory, with the objective of attracting boys and girls who are not currently playing football or are underrepresented in the AFL.
The aim of these Next Generation Academies is to encourage, develop and enhance participation outcomes for talented players, with an additional focus of creating more opportunities for Multicultural and Indigenous participants.
All programs will include on-field skill development and educational components to prepare participants to be the best players they can be and equally, the best people they can be.
Consequently, AFL Goulburn Murray have established a partnership with Richmond FC which will see their Next Generation Academy realised through programs such as:
- Tatura Milk Youth Development Academy
- Kickstart and All Nations programs
- Echuca based Indigenous Advisory Group
- Coach education programs
- Targeted multicultural and indigenous development programs
- Fan engagement and other community initiatives
